Gripping!
I couldn't put it down.
From start to finish, I was hooked.
It was one of those books that, when you're asked to do something by someone else, you say "Let me finish this chapter" and, sneakily, you read two more.
The story revolves around a couple whose baby has been kidnapped whilst they attend a dinner party next door. A little Madeleine McCann-esque to begin with but once you get past that uneasy feeling and read on, the story becomes its own and you find yourself questioning the motives of every character.
There are so many twists throughout the tale, leaving you wondering where on earth the story is going, but everything comes back round and there is nothing left unanswered.
The story is very well written. Lapena certainly considers the personalities of the characters and uses these to steer the story forward.
They sometimes appear a little mis-matched; particularly Anne and Marco (the main characters) who don't really seem a well-suited couple. There's not much chemistry between them and I never really found myself rooting for them as a couple; however, as individual characters, you're praying that they are the good guys in the story.
*spoiler alert*
That ending!
It left me open-mouthed and wanting more. A very fitting cliff-hanging finish for a book that was filled with them from the first chapter.
I look forward to reading more novels by this author.

I read this book too and absolutely loved it! I’d recommend Only the Innocent by Rachel Abbott, it’s the first of the DCI Tom Douglas series it’s honestly so good! So gripping, if you liked the couple next door you’d love this! X
Ooh thank you – I will definitely read this. I love reading a book that I just can’t put down x
