It’s finally that beautiful time of year when the leaves are filling our lives with brown, red and orange hues, there’s a chill in the air causing us to wear snugglier clothing and hot drinks with a pumpkin-spice twist have re-entered the menu in our favourite coffee houses. It’s also creeping up to that time when we want to nestle onto the sofa, covered in a fleecy blanket, ready to watch the best Disney Plus Halloween movies.

Does Disney plus have any Halloween movies?

The answer to this, simply put, is YES! I was actually surprised with how many Halloween movies were available. I even ended up down the rabbit hole of scrolling through the movies and coming across many that I remember from my younger days, as well as some absolute classics. All of these will be available in this list to help you choose which of the Disney Plus Halloween movies you wish to watch either by yourself, with others or with your little ones.

Below, you will find a selection of Disney Plus Halloween movies from the old to the new, for the young to the older.

What Disney Plus Halloween movies are suitable for young children?

Disney loves providing all ages with entertaining movies, and Walt was someone who just loved entertaining children. So, of course there are Halloween movies available on Disney Plus for the youngest generation.

The Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular

The beauty of this movie is that it is only 22 minutes long so perfect for those little ones who may not quite have mastered the art of watching a full-length movie. Classic Mickey tells a ghost story to his friends. It’s very cute and suitable for children around 5 years of age.

Mickey’s Tale of Two Witches

More modern than Mickey’s Halloween Spooktacular but this is another cute movie for the little ones where Minnie Mouse and Daisy Duck take part in a series of tests to qualify for graduating at the Witch Academy. It’s a little longer than Spooktacular at 48 minutes.

Trick or Treat

This is one of shortest Disney Plus Halloween movies at just 9 minutes and features Donald Duck’s cheeky nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie as they get up to all sorts of shenanigans on all Hallow’s eve.

Toy Story of Terror

Disney Pixar’s favourite toys go on a spooky road trip that has its young viewers gripped. A perfect short movie (21 minutes) for your little ones that is filled with excitement. This is a great movie to introduce your children to the fun of Halloween.

Lonesome Ghosts

I would say this is the original Ghostbusters as this movie was made in 1937! As a Disney classic, it just had to be included in the list of Disney Plus Halloween movies.

Mickey, Donald and Goofy are part of the Ajax Ghost Exterminators who go and visit lonely ghosts but are scared of them. No sign of Slimer but there are definitely some great characters that will entertain your little ones this Halloween.

What classics are in the Disney Plus Halloween movies section?

Here are some of the classic Disney Halloween movies from your youth. These will fill you with nostalgia and really get you into the mood for Halloween festivities.

Hocus Pocus

This is one of those movies that you must watch every year and, if you don’t, you get a weird, incomplete feeling. It’s just tradition to watch Hocus Pocus each Halloween.

These three witches are the epitome of Halloween, really and there’s such a cocktail of classic spooky features, including a spellbook and a black cat (Thackery Binx, of course!) that will leave you wanting to get your cauldron out and conjure up some spells.

Hocus Pocus 2

The Sanderson sisters are back! The long-awaited Hocus Pocus 2 is finally here and available on Disney Plus, ready for Halloween.

Although Thora Birch is greatly missed from the cast, it’s great to see the original witches back together. Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica-Parker and Kathy Najimy are still just as wonderful as they were in the original 29 years ago.

Frankenweenie

There are two Frankenweenie movies available on Disney Plus. There’s the original short that stars the wonderful Shelley Duvall and Daniel Stern and also the remake by the ever-spooky Tim Burton.

Both versions are a spin on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein but, instead of Victor reviving a human, he instead resurrects his dog, Sparky. Both of these Disney Plus Halloween movies are far more suited to children.

Twitches

Anyone who grew up in the ’90s remembers Tia and Tamara Mowry being fabulous in Sister Sister and the excitement that surrounded them whenever they appeared in anything else. Twitches and Twitches Too are both available on Disney Plus and focus around the twins having magical powers that are much stronger when they work as a team.

Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire

It wouldn’t be right having this list of Disney halloween movies and not including a movie that involves the fabulously quirky Aunt Hilda from Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

This is a fun movie for children as a family are desperate to get their mother out of the house; so desperate, in fact, that they send their Mom on a date with a vampire. Lots of classic ’90s/early ’00s Halloween fun that the kids will enjoy.

Are all the Halloween towns on Disney Plus?

Kicking it back to the ’90s again! The Halloweentown movies were just as popular as the Goosebumps series and those who enjoy revelling in a bit of ’90s nostalgia will be pleased to know that there are indeed the Halloweentown movies available on Disney Plus, ready for Halloween.

Halloweentown

Let’s start with the original, where all the Halloween fun and frolics began. Similarly to Sabrina from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Marnie discovers that she has magical powers on her birthday when she is staying with her grandmother who is also a witch. A good witch, I should add.

Whilst she is getting to grips with the supernatural, there are other spooky goings on in this town that Marnie and her younger brother and sister must tackle.

Lots of spooky Disney Halloween fun!

Halloweentown 2: Kalabar’s Revenge

Marnie returns to Halloweentown when some more strange goings on happen. A great sequel to a super original Disney Halloween classic.

Halloweentown High

Marnie is growing up and understanding her magical powers a little better. This third instalment of the Halloweentown series sees Marnie using her magic to help her friends at her high school in the mortal world.

Return to Halloweentown

Another Halloweentown available as part of the Disney Plus Halloween movies. Marnie is all grown up and heading to Witch University but things are never simple and she has to figure out the meaning of an ancient prophecy.

The Halloweentown series is certainly worth the watch at Halloween. They’re very feel-good movies that will transport you back to your younger years.

Are Halloween movies for children on Disney plus?

Here are a selection of Disney Plus Halloween movies that children will enjoy, as well as the adults of course.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Is it a Halloween movie or is it a Christmas movie? Either way, it’s one that should be watched at least twice in a year to cover all bases.

This Tim Burton musical is just fantastic and well ahead of its time. It follows Jack Skellington as he grapples with the boredom of doing the same thing over and over each Halloween within his dark and spooky Halloween Town. He finds a portal to other worlds and ends up visiting Christmas Land which is the polar opposite of Halloween Town; it is full of snow, laughter, lights and merriment. Jack hopes to recreate this in his own world but struggles to deviate from all that is spooky.

Two Tim Burton characters stand on a distorted, curled hill in the moonlight. A ghost dog flies past them and three trick or treat children stand on the hill.

Coco

Perhaps not conventionally classed as one of the Disney Plus Halloween movies but I could not leave out Coco when it’s got a spooky theme based on Mexico’s day of the dead. Children will certainly enjoying seeing Miguel navigate his way through the Land of the Dead, searching for his musician father.

This movie is beautifully done and I would say it is certainly one of the most underrated Disney movies.

A boy holding a guitar is smiling next to a dog and a happy skeleton who is wearing a hat

Monsters, Inc

A movie about monsters! It just had to be included in the Disney Plus Halloween movies list. Sully and Mike are the perfect characters to introduce children to the absurd at Halloween. These monsters may not necessarily be spooky but Randall will certainly send shivers up their spine.

And maybe Roz too!

A large blue monster (Sully) and a small green monster (Mike) pose with their thumbs up

Descendants 1, 2 and 3

Any movie with a concept about the children of the evil characters from Disney movies is always going to capture hearts and imaginations of children all over the world. It’s a fun insight as to how the children of Maleficent, Jafar and Cruella De Vil (amongst others) would behave.

There are so many references to Disney classics that adults will enjoy watching this movie too. All other sequels and spin-offs are available via Disney Plus Halloween movies too.

The Haunted Mansion

Based on the ride at Disney World, this movie tells the story of the curse at Gracey Manor. Similarly to the attraction, the guests at the haunted manor become trapped and experience interactions with a number of ghosts who all have a story to tell.

For those who wish to travel to Disney World or have done so already, you can read here about some of the Easter Eggs hidden within the theme parks.

Eddie Murphy stands before four ghostly figures. Underneath is a mansion surrounded by fog.

Muppets Haunted Mansion

Any movie that incorporates the Muppets is guaranteed to be a laugh a minute. Muppets Haunted Mansion is no exception as everybody’s favourite, The Great Gonzo, visits the haunted Gracey Manor and ends up going on a spooky adventure with his sidekick, Pepe the King Prawn. It wouldn’t be right to exclude this movie from the list of Disney Plus Halloween movies.

There’s music, laughter and classic muppet antics in this remake of The Haunted Mansion. It’s also a great movie to introduce your children to before showing them The Muppets Christmas Carol, which is just one of the greatest Christmas movies of all time!

Several muppets are dressed in old clothing (top hats etc) in front of a mansion on a hill surrounded by fog

Are Halloween movies for older children on Disney Plus?

Yes, there are! Some other movies may be considered a little young for certain viewers so here are a few that older children may enjoy and are perfect for the list of Disney Plus Halloween movies.

Maleficent

Angelina Jolie oozes terror as the fearsome villain from Sleeping Beauty. It delves deeply into this evil sorceress’s past to unravel why and how she became the menacing entity that we’ve always known her to be, as well as her desire to kill the beautiful princess, Aurora.

And if you enjoy this movie, there are also the sequels available on Disney Plus Halloween movies too.

Angelina Jolie as Maleficent who has two horns on her head. A mystical world with other characters is behind her.

Cruella

Another depiction of how a Disney villain ended up the way they were portrayed in their respective original Disney movie. Cruella explores the childhood of Cruella De Vil, of 101 Dalmations fame, and recognises why she became the fur-coat fanatic that we know. Emma Stone is glorious as fashionista Cruella who strives for greatness in the fashion industry… and the soundtrack to the movie is absolutely top-notch!

I love that this movie is not what you really expect but Disney does that classic thing of making you empathise with the original Disney villains.

Emma Stone has curly hair which is half black and half white. She stands with a stick across her shoulders.

Edward Scissorhands

Another one that makes you question whether it’s a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie. And, again, it’s by the phenomenal Tim Burton! He must really love that transition between Halloween and Christmas.

Edward Scissorhands is such a fabulous movie. Johnny Depp is classic Johnny Depp as he portrays Edward as a quirky outsider with scissors for hands. He is awkward and odd but very sweet. The chemistry between him and Winona Ryder is palpable as her cheerleader character, Kim, becomes very fond of the outcast that is Edward.

This is a well-loved classic and perfect for those wanting a light-hearted film to watch at Halloween. You can locate it in the Disney Plus Halloween movies section.

Does Disney Plus have horror movies?

Warning: Children or those of a nervous disposition, look away now! The following movies are for adults.

The majority of this Disney Plus Halloween movies list has been most suited for children, teens and adults who are not big on horror movies. However, Disney Plus does indeed have horror movies available for those who wish to watch something with a greater scare-factor.

I was surprised to see some of these on Disney Plus as Disney is so often perceived as being targeted at children. This just goes to show that we are now living in a world where even Disney can surprise us (and I don’t just mean with over-excited vicars and disgruntled artists).

28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later

A far cry from classic zombie movies such as The Night of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later is a movie that reignited a flare for zombies and provided them with a realistic quality. If you want to watch something creepy, this is available in the Disney Plus Halloween movies section.

From Hell

That creepy movie that explored the killings by Jack the Ripper is also available on Disney Plus Halloween movies. Johnny Depp is a detective in search of the murderer who targeted certain ladies of the night. It’s a very dark movie and the fact that it’s based on real events from Whitechapel, London in 1888 makes it even more sinister.

Johnny Depp and Heather Graham stand closely to the right. The silhouette of a figure in a top hat is shrouded in red light.

The Hills Have Eyes

Another zombie-themed movie that has landed in the Disney Plus Halloween movies list. This was quite a popular remake of Wes Craven’s original movie and the sequel is available to view also. If you’re into mutants that are not turtles, then this is definitely for you. It’s a movie about survival against the undead and will certainly give you the heebie-jeebies.

What Lies Beneath

This is one of those movies that keeps you guessing the whole way through. It’s creepy and eerie all in one as it toys with the paranormal, as well as making you question the “normal”. I remember watching this movie when I was younger and finding it very suspenseful and one that made me not sleep well for a few days… however, it was later mocked in the film Scary Movie 2 and that did take the edge off it slightly.

Although it’s not your typical spooky horror, it’s certainly one that will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and it’s definitely not one to watch alone. That’s why it’s included in the list of the best Disney Plus Halloween movies.

Signs

Oh my word! Talk about movies that are underrated! You may think I’ve gone mad but I couldn’t miss this one off the Disney Plus Halloween movies list. This film didn’t get great reviews when it first came out. I wasn’t even too taken with it when I very first watched it. However, I now think it’s one of the most underrated movies ever. It might not be as terrifying as Alien but this movie is actually very well written.

The link between believing, not believing and having faith forms the foundation of this movie. It may not be a Halloween movie that you watch with the lights off, hiding behind your couch and watching through your fingers, but it is an enjoyable watch.

Are classic horror movies on Disney plus?

Below is a selection of what can only be deemed as classic horror movies available on Disney Plus. These are a few of the bread and butter of what is considered classic horror and these will definitely have your heart racing and goosebumps prickling your arms.

The Omen

One of the most chilling movies of its time, The Omen focuses on a little boy being the anti-Christ and, let’s be honest, there’s nothing scarier than creepy kids in movies! If you want to sit in the dark, jumping at every suspenseful noise, this is the one for you. A perfect movie for those who truly enjoy being scared at Halloween.

A young boy stands before a cross. A man and woman both look scared.

Predator

I will never forget watching this movie and naively thinking it wouldn’t be that scary. How wrong was I? I think it’s because Arnie was in it and I just assumed I’d feel OK about it all. However, this extra-terrestrial monster caused me a few sleepless nights as even Arnie struggled to take him down. Perhaps not necessarily considered “scary” nowadays as I believe many of us have been desensitised by movies and TV shows, but it is certainly a classic and will cause a few hearts to beat a little faster than normal.

Its sequels are also available in the Disney Plus Halloween movies section.

Alien

Wow! This movie may have been made in 1979 but don’t let that put you off. This movie could teach many aspirational screenwriters a thing or two about horror, fear and suspense. The tagline alone (“In space nobody can hear you scream”) is enough to send shivers up your spine, especially now that we are living in a world where journeys into space are becoming more and more likely for future generations.

This is definitely one to watch with the lights off on Halloween and worthy of concluding our list of Disney Plus Halloween movies.

And if you’re keen to explore other adventures with Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) at the forefront, the sequels are also available on Disney Plus.

An egg that has craters on it has a large crack across its front. Light and mist spill out of it.

Happy Halloween

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this list of Disney Plus Halloween movies and are inspired to watch some of them during the upcoming months. Just make sure that you’ve paid the leccy bills before watching as you don’t want the lights turning off on their own mid-movie!

Feel free to share any other Halloween movies that you have watched on Disney Plus in the comments section below.

Enjoy!
