I’ve always known that it’s important to cleanse and tone my skin, especially when I wear my make-up from 7am to the time I go to bed and, now that I’m in my thirties, I’m really starting to notice that my skin is in desperate need of some TLC.
I remember the first time I started to cleanse and tone. My Mom took me to an Estee Lauder make-up event at Debenhams when I was about eighteen. I loved it! The beautician demonstrated how to apply all of the lotions and potions to ensure perfect skin and make-up. My Mom treated me to the Estee Lauder Idealist cream and I was blown away. It made my skin feel amazing and I vowed to use that for the rest of my life.
However, when you’re treated to something at the blissfully ignorant age of eighteen, you don’t realise that things of such quality cost a pretty penny and there’s no way that you can continue to use such treatments when you have bills to pay and don’t have the same salary as Katy Perry or Bill Gates.
So, I’ve had to go back to the high street products and I’ve been forever searching for something in the same league as Estee Lauder or YSL that’s a fraction of their prices.
When I lived on my own about seven years ago, I had to tighten the purse strings even more so and I began using Simple products. I used their cleanser and toner for years and, although I found it to be suitable for my skin, I found that it didn’t really give me a glow. Heaven forbid I didn’t wear foundation because my skin would be different hues from my forehead to my chin – I felt that the toner was doing anything but toning.
Earlier this year (prior to lockdown), I decided to use L’Oreal’s ‘Fine Flowers Milk’ and ‘Fine Flowers Toner’ (both in Rose and Jasmine) and, I have to say, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how these products have made my skin look and feel. They’re still not in the same league as Estee Lauder products (one day, I shall return to Idealist for some much needed luxury) but, considering they are a high street product at a high street price, I’d certainly recommend for a good cleanse and tone to help eradicate any make-up residue. I use Micellar water to remove my make-up and the L’Oreal products clear up any of my foundation that’s been left behind.
Let me know your favourite cleansing and toning products.
